There is great news for 2012 in the world of Nonprofits, Charity and Philanthropy: the World Giving Index (WGI) ranks the United States by far #1 in total giving and giving as a % of total income as well! Add to this astounding report that 43% of respondents in the US do some volunteer work. The WGI also found that 73% of Americans said they helped a stranger in 2011, which is up from 65% in 2010!

What makes this report even more exciting and encouraging is that the World Giving Index (WGI) is compiled by the United Kingdom based Charities Aid Foundation and that is the first year the United States has ranked first in overall giving in the many years this report has been compiled. Way to go USA!
